Home Is Somewhere Else

An “animentary” featuring three personal stories. The stories are united by our host, spoken word poet José Eduardo Aguilar “El Deportee”, deported from his home state of Utah to Mexico at age 23. With his Spanglish poetry, Lalo presents each story: Jasmine’s fear of her parents being deported and her inspiration to become an activist, sisters Evelyn and Elizabeth and their painful relationship of living with different immigration statuses in the same household and, finally, Lalo’s own childhood, process of deportation, and path to becoming an artist activist.

Un documental animado de tres historias personales e independientes. Las historias están unidas por nuestro anfitrión, el poeta oral José Eduardo «El Deportee» Aguilar, deportado de su hogar en Utah a México a los 23 años. Con su poesía en spanglish, Lalo introduce cada historia: el miedo de Jasmine de que sus padres sean deportados, las hermanas Evelyn y Elizabeth y su dolorosa relación de crecer con diferentes estatus migratorios bajo el mismo techo, y la propia infancia de Lalo, su proceso de deportación y su camino para convertirse en un artista activista.
